DJ Derek (1941 -2015 )
Reggae disc jockey
DJ Derek was one of Bristol's cultural icons. He gave up his career as an accountant to become a DJ in 1978 and played reggae, soul, rocksteady and dancehall for the rest of his life. Inspired by the Jamaican community who first settled in the St Paul’s area of the city, he was a living embodiment of the multiculturalism that characterises Bristol.
