Isambard Kingdom Brunel (1806 - 1859) Mechanical and civil engineer

One of the greatest engineers of the 1800s, Brunel has been adopted by Bristolians as one of their own even though he never resided permanently in the city. His work on engineering projects such as Clifton Suspension Bridge, the Great Western Railway, the SS Great Britain and the redesign of Bristol docks, transformed the city and country. After Brunel, the world was a much smaller place.
