This dog was originally identified as a cat. X-rays confirmed that it was a neo-natal puppy, possibly a stillborn.

It was believed that mummified dog offerings enabled the dog's spirit to carry a person's prayer to the afterlife. Dogs and jackals were considered messengers to Anubis, god of the underworld.
