The Braemar was designed by Frank Barnwell in response to the urgent demand by the British Air Board for heavy bombers following the devastating German bombing campaign of 1917. The strategic campaign, which sought to attack civilian targets in London and the South-East was codenamed Operation Türkenkreuz.
