Maherush Khan [MK]: The past is just behind me, and this Desh project is where I start.

Q: It’s now recording, tilt it slightly towards us, that’s it.

MK: This is me at my auntie’s wedding, I was about five years old at that time. This is a photo of my dad’s side of the family, so over here is my dad, my dad came here before my mum did, so he was working here, and then got married. This is my mum, this was probably her third or second year in the UK. This is my grandad, he was a police officer in India, this was my grandad when he came to the UK, he quit his job as a police officer, he retired. I would love to see what he was like in his childhood, growing up in India then I’d imagine he had a lot of freedom, I’d like to imagine him riding his bike down the streets of [inaudible 00:01:09]. When he was here in the UK he would keep playing us old song, it was his favourite.

Q: Is this the actual same version that he would have listened to?

MK: Yeah, [inaudible 00:01:21].

MK: She has a really nice voice.

Q: It’s amazing, yeah.

MK: Here I am, this one. My childhood is much easier for me to remember, and I can assure you that it would be nothing like his.
