Rukhsar Mussagi [RM]: This is a picture of my whole family; this is my mum and dad now. This is my oldest brother and my oldest sister-in-law. This is my second oldest brother and his wife. This is my third brother, and his wife. This picture was taken in India after they all got married. This is my dad, I don’t know how old he is, but he’s very young in that picture obviously. And this is my mum and dad and my oldest brother, this was taken in Africa in Mozambique. He went back to India because –

Father: [Foreign language spoken]. There was a war; we left

RM: This is my mum and this is my dad, and they’re at Islamic festival. When I was little my dad moved to England

Father: 1999[Foreign language spoken]. To find work; job

RM: He was a?

Father: Kitchen Porter [Foreign language spoken]. Friend

RM: They helped him find work.

Father: [Foreign language spoken]. First I lived in a restaurant

RM: I asked him what it was like here, and he said.

Father: [Foreign language spoken]. It was all new

RM: And my mum said.

Mother: [Foreign language spoken]. I didn’t find it strange, I liked it here

RM: This is me on my first birthday, this is in my house in India, and obviously there’s a cake, I think I was about two or three, and this was also taken in India. This is also me; I think I was about five. I can just about remember the plane ride, just me and my mum, I was seven. I wanted a window seat and a kind man let me. There was not enough sugar in my tea, so I went to the kitchen and asked the staff, sugar, which was the third English word I knew, after hello and bye of course.
