Soni Kaur: This is me now, and where I live with my mum, dad and my twin sisters, but this is where it all began. I lived in Barton Hill and spent all of my childhood here. We lived in a house on Holmes Street and it was just me, my mum and dad who lived there for several years. I went to Barton Hill Nursery and Primary School where most of the years were spent of me causing lots of mischief and havoc. During the day I would play in the park and with the others who lived on the street. After school my grandad would collect me and we would go visit my gran in hospital, we would stop at the shop to buy some fruit for her. When I would visit my gran she used to teach me how to play draughts and would ask me how my day at school was. I used to play at the Dug Out in Netham Park. This is where all the kids in the area used to come and hang out. My uncle, auntie and my cousins also used to live near us in Barton Hill so I would always go to their house and play, or my cousins would come to my house and play with me. I would roam the streets with them and play with their friends in the park and sometimes we used to play football or cricket in the car park. When my granddad would take me to his house which was most days, we would always watch wrestling as that was his favourite and I used to love it too. I would climb the sofa and on him and pretend I was a wrestler. Then as a treat he would buy me apple pies and let me eat as many as I’d like. He used to spoil me. I would always pull his moustache and call his curly whirly whiskers. He would always buy me sweets and toys even if I was naughty. After our house in Holmes Street we moved around the corner to Gullybrook Lane. I used to love my bedroom in this house as I remember I could see the whole of Bristol from my window. At night the entire city would be lit up and my Mickey Mouse wallpaper would also light up from the reflection. In this house we had two new additions to the family, the twins. My sisters were born and we all lived together in this house for a few more years, until we moved again. They were babies so they couldn’t really go and play like I could. But my mum would put them in their pram and take me and my sisters for a walk to the shops, we lived in Barton Hill for a few more years until my tenth birthday when we moved to here. It was such a busy day; everyone was running around. I was of course scrambling around for the best bedroom, but I lost out to the twins. I remember it was a nice summers day but it felt strange as the area was all brand new to me. But as years went on I have now had some of my most memorable adult life memories in this house. I passed my drivers test, I graduated from university, and lots of my close relatives from India have came to visit me and my family.
