This certificate showed that Joseph Vaughan Jones was exempt from military service. Temporary exemption was granted by a tribunal, often because a man had a business or family to support. After conscription was introduced in 1916, well over half of the men called up in Bristol applied for an exemption from service. TD4563 given by Judith Law
