Many of the men who volunteered in the first months of the war formed the 12th Battalion of the Gloucestershire Regiment, known as Bristol’s Own. At first, the recruits continued to live at home and go to work, so they wore badges like this to show that they had volunteered. Loaned by Clive Burlton
