The Bristol Citizens’ Recruiting Committee was set up in August 1914 to manage recruitment to the Armed Forces. Men who volunteered were given a medical examination and rejected if they were unfit for service. Cards like this allowed these men to prove that they had been willing to serve. BRO 43207/7/14
