Volunteers sang the song ‘It’s a Long Way to Tipperary’ as they marched to training camps in August 1914. It quickly became extremely popular. By early September, the copyright owner Bert Feldman was printing 10,000 copies per day. ‘Guess we’ll deafen the Kaiser with it before long’ he said. Loaned by J Mawson
