Clara Butt, the most celebrated singer of her day, had grown up in Bristol. Her benefit concert at the Bristol Hippodrome in aid of the Inquiry Bureau Funds sold out two weeks before the event. Clara Butt was made a dame in the1920 Honours List for her work during the war. BRO 36819/2
