This series of cigarette cards shows the various jobs undertaken by women during the war. These silk images were given away in the magazine ‘The Happy Home’. At first, women worked in offices, but in 1915 factories began employing women to make munitions. In the year between July 1916 and July 1917, women comprised a full half of Britain’s workforce.
