‘Your friends need you. Be a man’ Recruitment poster, about 1915

The government used propaganda to persuade men to enlist and those at home to support the war effort. Recruitment posters encouraged patriotism and tried to make men feel guilty and ashamed for not enlisting. News was censored, but newspapers carried many stories of German atrocities to stir up hatred of the enemy.
