Some of the industries boosted by war continued to grow and develop afterwards, although others quickly collapsed. Motorcycles were produced by the Douglas factory until the 1960s; the munitions factories at Avonmouth were converted to zinc smelting; Wills’s thrived as part of Imperial Tobacco, which still has its international headquarters in Bristol; and the Bristol Aeroplane Company has evolved into BAE Systems, Airbus and Rolls-Royce, all still active at Filton.
