Born in Bristol, Dannie Donald joined the army when he was 16, Danni Matthews when he was 24. Between them they have seen action in Iraq, Afghanistan and Ireland.

They have both suffered Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) which can cause flashbacks, anxiety, depression and mood changes.

Known as ‘shell shock’ in the First World War, PTSD is thought to affect 4-5% of veterans from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, whilst up to 20% experience other forms of mental illness such as depression or personality disorder.

Dannie and Danni are now discharged from the Army and living back in Bristol, involved in a Self Build project for homeless veterans. In these interviews they reflect on their experiences.
