Part of a series titled Manual Man, Manual Grid depicts the heads of hapless men peering out from the grid like petty criminals trapped in 18th century stocks. Through painting, Tala Madani explores the use of space on a monumental scale. She says, 'The reason why I chose painting as a medium very specifically, besides the fact that I am very connected to its process, is because the space, the four corners of the canvas, is an abstract space; a very disconnected abstract space that could be the space for my actions'. Madani combines visual puns, horror, and bleak humour through the medium of painting.
