Made in England (1811). Following the death of Princess Amelia, daughter of King George III in 1810, ladies’ magazines gave advice on the proper attire and accessories for mourning to follow the style of the Royal Family. The mourning dress shown here was appropriate for the later stages when embellishments such as jewellery and white trimming were acceptable.
