After the deceased was buried the widow or widower would go into seclusion. During this time they would make jewellery from 'Job's tears' grass seeds. The jewellery was worn in the second mourning period after their return to society. In the past, women of the Dani people were expected to cut off parts of their fingers as a sign of grief.
