Large mosques have their own freezers and washing area so the deceased’s close friends and relatives can prepare the body, assisted by a person from the Muslim community who is experienced in the process. They cut off the clothes, modestly wash the body, then wrap the person in simple white burial garments. No make-up is applied and there is no embalming.
'I would describe my preparation style as soft, respectful, slow, quiet and kind' says Ishrat Rashid, from Easton Mosque, who has helped relatives with this process for many years.
