Made in the UK by Paa Joe (2013).
The 'fantasy coffin' movement started in Ghana in the 1950s. The coffin design usually reflects the person for whom it is made. People have been buried in aeroplanes, cars, cameras, drinks bottles, animals and birds. Paa Joe, who was apprenticed to one of the founders of the movement Atta Oko, has created many 'fantasy coffins' in Ghana. Most fantasy coffins are buried, but many are in museum collections worldwide as cultural works of arts.
As featured in the documentary film, Paa Joe & The Lion. Directed by Benjamin Wigley. Produced by Anna Griffin (Art Docs).
