'When my mother died we had to make the decision as to whether to leave her jewellery with her when she was cremated – would she want to keep her favourite necklace and ring on, or would she want us to keep them? We knew that after cremation any metallic residue from jewellery is recovered from the ashes and donated to charity, so we decided as it wasn't going to stay with her anyway to keep it, to pass on in the family.'
