For three nights after a death amongst the Bara, the usual social rules are overturned. Men and women are separated in the day and come together to drink, dance and engage in usually forbidden sexual activity. On the third day the burial takes place, following a stampede of cattle and a show of cattle wrestling by the young men. Following the first harvest after the death, a large gathering takes place with hundreds of guest and conspicuous displays of wealth, food and drink. The funerary ceremonies finish with the reburial of the bones, which might be some years after the death.
