A man remembers the freak show at the early fairs. There was a 'headless lady'- a contortionist who was sitting in a chair and leaning her head far back, with a false top to her chest with a glass jar with tubes of liquid, so that it appeared as though the jar was in place of her head. The children liked the freak show, but parents were a little disapproving. Some of the people in the freak show were actually ex-servicemen who had lost limbs in one of the world wars.
