Barbara Jones came from an illustration background but also wrote widely on art and produced murals for exhibitions and ocean liners. Fascinated by 'popular' art, Jones used images of fairgrounds and circuses across her practice, and her contribution of The Fairground to the School Prints series is a continuation of these themes. The Pop artist Peter Blake spoke of discovering Jones as 'one of the most important things that happened to me, and helped form the way I work'.
