La Chanteuse de Radio is a lithograph from a larger series produced by Leger in 1959, titled La Ville (Homage to Paris). The series continues the Modernist use of the city and technology to embody modernity, through cafe concerts, theatre scenes and bustling streets: or here, the radio singer. The visual effect of simple, layered blocks of colour adds movement to an already dynamic image and the bold swath of red across the subject's mouth echoes the volume of her singing.
