best of all, the British Council are sending some of my things to the British Pavilion at the Venice Biennale this summer
Moon Figure is Armitage’s first modelled and cast work, made at Corsham in Wiltshire where he was teaching. Armitage experimented with casting as a teenager but he practised carving at the Slade School, when he became interested in ancient Egyptian and Greek figures at the British Museum. Moon Figure with its flattened, simplified form, wide face and shoulders, blends the influences of ancient Greek sculpture with the creation of a style of his own.
