This painting is unique in Akolo’s oeuvre, a brief exploration in a more traditional northern Nigerian Hausa style. The Fulani people are a group of semi-nomadic cattle herders, the geometric shapes can be found in their artistic traditions. The stylistic change is quite clear. The shapes are very clearly outlined, rather than the expressive and painterly style used in the majority of his works. Akolo uses geometric shapes to define the positions of the horsemen and provide details on the bodies of the horses and riders. He uses simple alternating colours, blue and pink, for their figures. However, there is still a greater clarity in the characters than in most of his other paintings. The traditional robes have been created through the shape and colour. The strong hand gesture creates a unity between the figures.
