Marjory was the daughter of a naval officer who worked as Harbourmaster at Port Blair. Situated in the Indian Ocean, South Andaman was for many years a British penal colony.

Marjory is pictured here with her typically British doll’s house and pram, and accompanied by her “ayah” or nanny, a woman from the Jarawa tribe.
