William Brodribb was a Bristol lawyer who was transported to Australia in 1816. Despite his past, he continued to practise law and the Brodribbs established themselves as one of the most influential early families in the Brisbane area.

Most Australian towns and cities were still in an early stage of development. For the Brodribbs and their social circle it was of crucial importance to maintain British culture. Other photographs in this album show picnics, elaborate weddings and lavish home interiors.
