In 1960, Janet made a dress for a City & Guilds Advanced Dressmaking exam at Bristol College of Technology, Park Street. She intended to wear it to her wedding. However....

'I decided not to wear the dress because my boyfriend & I wanted to go on holiday together so we got married by special licence and cancelled the church. It was ‘not done’ to go away together in those days unless you were married!'

Janet says she never regretted it once.
