Good Sixty was founded in Bristol in 2016 to support small retailers and producers specialising in food. The plan was to bring them together as one collective force online, so that small independents on our high streets could compete with large supermarkets and national veg box schemes as a sustainable online grocery solution. By using Good Sixty, people buy from a variety of local shops online in a single purchase, and have it delivered to their door in one drop.

The company vision ‘to create wealthier, healthier, better connected communities’ is reflected in the name, Good Sixty. According to a study at Harvard business school, there’s a 60% greater economic benefit to your community if you choose to shop in a local independent store rather than a large supermarket. During the 2020 lockdown, as well as being a source of high quality food for consumers, the concept was more critical than ever for independent retailers and highstreets to survive.

In Bristol and Bath, Good Sixty works in partnership with over 50 local retailers and small producers, taking orders through the Good Sixty website and delivering their produce on electric cargo bikes across both cities. This has become a lifeline for hundreds of independent retailers, many of whom faced an overnight plummet in sales as a result of COVID-19 restrictions. The online platform eliminates the complexities involved with setting up and marketing an individual online shop - or dealing with delivery logistics - at such a challenging time.

Harry Noel-Smith, Founder of Kinetic Kitchen in Bristol said, “After having to close our main revenue source, our coffee truck, the business was certainly in turmoil. With such a small online presence prior to lockdown, it was an incredibly daunting experience not knowing how we would pay our next financial bill. Along comes the local superhero - Good Sixty. As well as connecting us to numerous local and further afield customers, the company has been extremely supportive with online and social media exposure. We have now tripled our online customer base and have secured a sustainable income for Kinetic Kitchen, thanks to Good Sixty.”

Longer established shops have also found Good Sixty invaluable. Jane Hunt at Joe’s Bakery on the Gloucester Road said, “Good Sixty have been a fantastic help and support to Joe's Bakery during this tough time. They continue to adapt and grow their business to provide such a valuable service to many households whilst also supporting local traders in being able to fulfil the demand.'

"Good Sixty has been a lifeline during lockdown. Without it, we would have struggled to continue to serve our regulars. By being part of a collective of independent retailers on the website, we've also picked up a lot of new customers along the way. We’ve been blown away by the support we’ve had from them all, actively wanted to support local businesses like us through Good Sixty”. (Simon MacDonnell of Papadeli in Clifton.)
