Edward Mapham wrote his will before leaving Bristol for Africa on the Greyhound, knowing that many of the crew on slave ships died from accidents or disease. He left everything to his friends George and Elizabeth Gore, though what he had to leave is unknown. He signed with an 'X' as he could not read or write.
