This silver trowel was presented to the mayor of Bristol to commemorate the laying of the corner stone of workmen's houses at Fishponds in 1875.

Like many of the areas surrounding Bristol, Fishponds was transformed in the 1800s by the need to provide housing and amenities close to the factories and mines where people worked. Today housing still needs to be provided but the dilemma is where to build.
