By the 1930s, The Bristol Brewery Georges & Co. Ltd. had more than 900 pubs and other outlets and was Bristol's premier brewer. This came to an end in 1961 when it was taken over by Courage & Barclay Limited. Georges' famous trademark, the dray horse, was replaced as its premises were either renamed or closed.
