Many homes now had electricity and were turning towards new gadgets - electric cookers, irons, vacuum cleaners, and lighting all helped to make household tasks quicker, easier and, in many cases, far less messy.

Radio ownership rocketed during the 1930s, and technological advances made items like cameras and even moving film cine cameras more affordable to more people.
