More people owned their own homes in the 1930s than ever before, and home furnishings and fittings were widely available in shops. Items such as these had a new modern look that reflected the style of new homes being built.Running and maintaining a Victorian household involved hard physical labour, most of which was done by women. Tasks included washing and ironing clothes, cleaning and scrubbing floors, and cooking and preparing food.
