The primary school of St Michael's on the Mount produces an annual play to say
goodbye to pupils leaving for secondary school. In 2009 they performed Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream to the rest of their school, friends, family and teachers. In fact the whole school participated in making props and outfits and many parents also helped out.
Yasmin played Starveling: 'Even if one person was taken away, it doesn't matter what they are doing, none of it would work. That's what is nice about this play - everyone is equally important.' She managed to learn her role with the support of the cast: 'The lines are quite complicated but I have memorized them now. We help one another out when we forget our lines.' She likes the way the roles have brought friends closer together: 'Doing the play you get to know your friends even better because what you see in those characters are sometimes what are actually in the real person.'
Leah played Titania, the fairy queen, 'She falls in love with a donkey called Bottom. It's a bit strange!' Leah noticed how a few pupils were disappointed with their roles at first, 'But in fact everybody is important in this play.' She especially liked the camaraderie of acting with her schoolmates. 'It's a really good fun way to end the year and a nice thing to do together with all our friends in class.'
