Muskets, pistols, gunpowder, shot and lead for making shot were all traded to Africa. The increasing number of guns made it harder for those Africans opposed to the slave trade to maintain their opposition. To defend themselves they also needed guns, and guns were traded for enslaved people, ivory and gold.
