It took six years to complete the Royal Edward Dock at Avonmouth. On 9 July 1908, it was officially opened when the Royal Yacht, with King Edward VIl and Queen Alexandra on board, passed through the entrance lock and cut a ceremonial ribbon of which this is a remnant.
