Construction of Clifton Suspension Bridge began in August 1836, five years after the opening ceremony, as many disputes had delayed the work. This stone, marked 'A.N. VICK. I.K.B. 27 AUG 1836 ' commemorates Brunel and A N Vick, probably William Vick who left money for the building of the bridge. The initials 'A. N.' remain a mystery.
