Chimney pots began to be mass-produced after the industrial revolution. Pots like this 'Patent Smokure' of about 1900, made by Haskins Pottery in Warmley, were designed to solve the problem of chimneys that failed to create enough draught for the fire to burn well. Herbert Haskins, who controlled the Tower Pottery at Warmley from 1891, patented many innovations and developments but particularly in the design of chimney pots.
