These musket balls, or lead shot, are thought to have been used by musketeers during the two sieges of Bristol in 1643 and 1645.

The box they are contained in has a label inside that reads:

'Found September 1897, in digging the foundation for the Scottish Widows' Life Insurance Office, New Baldwin Street, Bristol. Probably used at the Seige of Bristol in the time of the Civil War, circa 1643-5. Baldwin Street was the site of the Fosse immediately beneath the walls of the City. With the Compliments of Messrs. E.G. Clarke & W.S. Hawker"
