The ancient Egyptian words for amulets were meket, nehet and sa, which all come from the word ‘protect’. People may have worn amulets as jewellery, but they might have been tied in bundles and carried hidden away. The Egyptians believed that they gave power or protection to the person wearing or carrying them. An amuletic symbol on a ring gave the same protection as an amulet.
