Alabaster was used for statues and as a building material, for flooring for example, but what has survived most are the many pots and bowls made from it. Small kohl and ointment pots, and larger pots and vases may have been made for use in the home, but many were placed in burials to ensure that the dead had makeup, perfume and food and drink in the Afterlife.
