Spirit and soul are rough translations of the ideas behind the Egyptian names ka and ba. The ka was the life force of a living person, the ba was similar to the personality. The ba was shown as a human-headed bird. The ka was shown as a human being, but sometimes was joined to the ba as a double-headed bird.
The ren or name was an essential part of a person or inanimate object. In one Egyptian myth, the god Ptah created everything in the world simply by naming it.
