: a framed colour drawing on paper, showing: a portrait of Ada Marian Vachell (1866-1923) known as "Sister Vachell" who founded the 'Guild of the Poor Brave Things' to help children with disabilities in London; in 1913, Vachell's charity built the Guild Heritage Building, Bragg's Lane, Bristol, for Bristol branch of 'The Guild of the Brave Poor Things'; it was an innovative building featuring ramps and wide doorways to ensure that in was accessible to people with disabilities; in 1917, the charity changed its name to the 'Bristol Guild of Handicapped'; the artist was a friend of the sitter, and also wrote a biography entitled 'Ada Vachell of Bristol' (published by Arrowsmith, Bristol, 1928)
