Queen's South Africa Medal

Printed certificate / citation from Lord Mayor, sheriff and Citizens to soldiers awarded medals for gallantry. Text in centre surmounted by the City arms, with Britannia and ?Victory either side. Print of a watercolour design. Signed by the Lord Mayor and Sheriff. Scroll at bottom gives Company, rank and name, and medal (in this case the Military Medal or M.M.)

Banknote, printed on one side in black ink. No:[661] Bristol Commercial Bank No 9 Bridge Street. No:[661] I Promise to pay to Evan Baillie or Bearer on Demand the sum of ONE POUND BRISTOL,the [13] day of [March] 18[04] For Clayton, Oliver, Burdon, & Co ONE POUND [J. Clayton] Ent.d [J.Strachan] Two logos appear on the note. One of a ship in the top left-hand corner, which appears to have been added as a separate piece of paper. The other directly below C.O.B &Co in a cartouche. The paper is discoloured and is slightly creased. There is some foxing in the bottom right-hand corner, there also appears to have been some repair work. On the reverse of the note there are six words of illegible handwriting.
