The word 'krater' means mixing bowl. Kraters were used to mix wine with water. This one dates to 325 - 300 BC.

We don't know the names of individual painters but sometimes work can be attributed to the same person based on the style. This vase was painted by the so-called Bristol Painter (named by academics who studied this piece in Bristol and found other examples of his/ her work). H4653 is by the same painter.
