The Bright family was a wealthy and influential family in Bristol, especially from the 1700s onwards. Henry Bright (1715-1777) made his fortune as a West India merchant, slave trader and banker.
Clothes and accessories from members of the Bright family were passed down through the generations and are currently on loan to the museum. They range from about 1747- 1925. We even know some of the days and occasions they were worn, thanks to careful documentation by the family.
